To provide a hydrogen separation body which can prevent a self-supporting type thin hydrogen-permeable membrane from being deformed and damaged and is excellent in hydrogen permeability, and to provide a hydrogen separation apparatus.
The hydrogen separation body is provided with the metallic or alloy-made hydrogen-permeable membranes, and support plates formed of pairs of porous materials supporting the hydrogen-permeable membranes from both sides, the support plate having different mechanical strengths on one side and the other side. The hydrogen separation apparatus is provided with the hydrogen separation body and a pair of metallic casing members sandwiching the hydrogen separation body and forming gas chambers on both sides of the hydrogen separation body, a joint part or a joint member of the hydrogen separation body being jointed to edges of the metallic casing members.
