Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide an alkaline storage battery having good cycle characteristics with less deterioration of characteristics in spite of achieving rapid charge/discharge cycles by using a mixture of metal oxide or metal hydroxide which exists as a metal at an electric potential where the hydrogen storage alloy absorbs and emits hydrogen electrochemically, in alkaline electrolyte with a hydrogen storage alloy for a main body.

CONSTITUTION: Metal oxide or metal hydroxide to be mixed with hydrogen storage alloy is reduced in an electrode, and the hydrogen storage alloy absorbs and emits hydrogen electrochemically in alkaline electrolyte, so it exits as conductive material of a good conductivity in the electrode when a battery is operated. As a result, a contact resistance between grains of hydrogen absorption alloy becomes small, and the conductivity of the electrode of hydrogen storage alloy is increased, and a charge/discharge efficiency becomes high. For the metal oxide or metal hydroxide, CuO, Cu2O, Cu(OH)2, Ag2O, Ag2O2, PbO, Tl2O3, Tl(OH)3, AuO2, Au2O3,or Au(OH)3 can be used.
