An image display device 40 comprises: a microscopic image obtaining unit 403 for obtaining a microscopic image including a magnified image of a sample imaged by a microscope 10; a display control unit 405 in which the microscopic image is displayed and which controls display of a microscopic image display area comprising a first area which includes a portion corresponding to the sample and a second area which does not include the portion corresponding to the sample; and an additional information obtaining unit 407 for obtaining additional information which is displayed in the second area and which is additionally provided for a user.
