An imaging apparatus includes: imaging means 8 for imaging the surroundings; light emitting means 5 for assisting imaging of the imaging means 8 when light intensity is low; a protection glass 4 for protecting front faces of the imaging means 8 and the light emitting means 5; cleaning means 13 for cleaning dirt of the protection glass 4; a motor-driven protection shutter 3 for opening/closing the front face of the protection glass 4; and determining means 11 for detecting the dirt of the protection glass 4 in response to a captured image captured by the imaging means 8 and determining execution of cleaning of the protection glass 4 from a detection result.
