PURPOSE: To edit both character and the bit mode information in an information memory by setting a parameter showing the writing start position as one unit showing (n) power of 2 of the picture element unit for an instruction decoding means.
CONSTITUTION: For writing to a memory unit of a page memory 20, the writing start position is set at the (n) power of 2 of the picture element unit for modes of a character pattern, a halftone pattern and a bit image respectively. If the bit image mode the end position which prescribes the end of a designated region is designated with the relative value given from the start position in the same address unit as the start position. The writing is started from the original point of the memory unit immediately after the application of a power supply and in case the writing start position is not designated. Otherwise the next position of the address where the writing is through immediately before designation is designated in the modes of a character pattern and a halftone pattern. Then the writing is started at a reset line feed position in the bit image mode.
