To efficiently and accurately retrieve and use the subject of retrieval by registering in association the information used to retrieve the subject of retrieval from within multimedia documents through qualitative evaluation of the degrees of importance.
An information processing method, which is capable of processing electronic documents including data with different attributes, includes retrieval data of a second attribute for retrieving data of a first attribute selected (S403, S404); separating the data of the second attribute found into component partial data; and quantifying the degree of importance of each partial data (S405, S406). Based on the results of analysis, the partial data whose degree of importance exceeds a threshold value is registered as data for retrieval (S406).
