To read arbitrary information from information recorded in an electronic camera into a personal computer and record it into a hard disk device.

The personal computer connected with the electronic camera reads a recording unit recorded in the electronic camera and displays a list of recorded information. If a recording unit to be recorded into the hard disk device that is an external storage device is specified from among the list, check boxes are displayed, corresponding to information included in the recording unit. For information to be recorded into a hard disk, "×" is displayed inside of the check box, to indicate that the information is a recording target. After information selection has been completed and then "OK" button is depressed, the personal computer transmits a control command to the electronic camera, reads specified information, and outputs the information read to the hard disk device and makes the information recorded.
