PURPOSE: To surely read out information by reversely feeding a film to a position where the information is started to be read out by a feeding means first and reading out the information of an identical part again next when it is decided that the information is not properly read out.

CONSTITUTION: The film 3 is fed so that magnetic recording tracks 5 and 6 on the film 3 are traced by a magnetic head 1. Then, a light emitting diode 17 and a phototransistor 18 are arranged at a position where a perforation 4 is passed through and the starting position where the information is read out and written is detected. When it is decided that recorded data cannot be read, short-circuit between both terminals of a motor for feeding 24 is executed and the feeding of the film is stopped. Next, the film is rewound by turning on transistors 26 and 27 and reversely rotating the motor 24. When it is detected that the film is returned to the starting position of the read-out, the motor 24 is braked and the rewinding of the film is stopped. Thereafter, the feeding (winding) is started again and the recorded data is read out again.
