To record and reproduce character code data which are superimposed on a vertical blanking period in a teletext broadcast such as closed captions by packing those code data as the subsidiary video information.
Receiving a reproducing instruction, an MPU 12 decides an address where the contents of the management area of an optical disk 11 out of a disk drive part 19 via a data processor part 18 and then reproduced. Then the MPU 12 sends the address decided for the data to be reproduced and a read instruction to the part 19. The part 19 reads the sector data out of the disk 11 in response to the received instruction, and the part 18 corrects the errors of the data and converts the data into the packed data to output them to a decoding part 14. The 14 receives the packed data via a separating part 27 and turns them into a packet.
