To provide an information reproduction apparatus and information reproduction method which can determine disk type by far faster than in the conventional practice, thereby can set an identification priority.
The information reproduction apparatus includes: an optical head device 101 that can selectively use a laser beam from a first or second light sources having different wavelength; a focus error signal threshold determination part 121a for determining whether a focus error signal surpasses a prescribed threshold while the first light source is used; a tracking error signal threshold determination part 121b for determining whether a tracking error signal surpasses a prescribed threshold when the focus error signal surpasses the prescribed threshold; and a notification processing part 121c for outputting display information showing that a disk is suitable for the first light source when the tracking error sinal surpasses the prescribed threshold and outputting display information showing a disk is suitable for the second light source when not surpassing.
