PURPOSE: To provide an ink-jet head, a mechanism of which is simplified and an which an interriupting time at the time of the use-up of ink is shortened and printing speed is increased.

CONSTITUTION: The inside of a vessel-shaped head frame 1 is partitioned into two upper and lower sections by a partition wall 13 with a communicating path 13a. The partition wall 13 is titled in the horizontal direction, thus constituting a solid ink fountain 19 by the upper section, then organizing an ink discharge section 14 by the lower section. Ink liquefied at the time of recording is held to the ink discharge section 14, and an ink holding means 7 detecting an ink level is provided. The solid ink fountain 19 and the ink discharge section 14 are thermally insulated, and a heater 2 for supplying ink is installed to the lower section of the partition wall 13. When an ink supply demand signal is output from an ink level detector, the heater 2 for supplying ink is turned ON and one part of solid ink 15 is liquefied ink is charged into the ink discharge section 14 by the weight of non-liquefied ink 15 itself in the upper section and the incluination of the partition wall 13.
