PURPOSE: To provide an ink-jet head, a mechanism of which is simplified and in which an ink level is detected easily.

CONSTITUTION: The inside of a vessel-shaped head frame 1 is pertitioned into two upper and lower sections by a partition wall 13 with a communicating path 13a. A sectional upper that the partition wall 13 constitutes a solid ink fountain 19, and a lower section ograniozes an ink discharge section 14. Ink liquefies at the time of recording is held in the discharge section 14, and the ink discharge section 14 detects an ink level. Ink holding means (a plurality of electorde plates) 7 combining ink-level detecting means are provided. The change of electrostatic capacity is measured through electrodes mounted to the electrode plates 7, thus detecting the presence of ink.
