A cutter posture detecting sensor 21 detects that a cutter edge is in the cutting posture. A number of times of cutting counter 31 counts the number of times of cutting of a recording medium with the cutter edge. A cutting error deciding unit 32 decides whether the cutting of the recording medium with the cutter edge is failed or not based on a signal from the cutter posture detecting sensor 21 and the positional information on the cutter edge. When a control unit 36 has received a signal from the cutting error deciding unit 32 that the cutting of the recording medium is failed and the number of times, counted by the number of times of cutting counter 31, is more than a predetermined reference number of cuttings, which is stored in a memory unit 35, the control unit 36 indicates in an indicating unit 23 an alarm that the cutter edge should be exchanged.
