PURPOSE: To inexpensively obtain a material which does not elute hazardous metals by mixing a specified plastic material with waste and reacting them with each other, then molding the reaction product to a molding of a large surface area, removing org. matter therefrom and binding inorg. materials by a heat treatment thereby forming a stable and an insoluble solid silicate complex.
CONSTITUTION: The plastic material which contains silicon and aluminum and is capable of forming a nonelutable compd. together with metals is produced by a method of disintegrating and mixing ores, such as shale and vermiculite. This plastic material and the dangerous or toxic waste are then mixed and they are reacted with each other to form a plastic mixture. The molding having a large surface area is formed from this plastic mixture, and the org. matters are removed and the inorg. materials are bonded therewith by the heat treatment to form the insoluble solid silicate complex. As a result, the odorless, insoluble industrial inorg. material which has a particle size of 0.2 to 15 cm and does not elute the hazardous metals and more particularly heavy metals is obtd.
