Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to prevent variations in combustion between cycles and provide stabilized combustion by injecting fuel mainly through an intake port through which a reduced flow of air is allowed. An engine (10) is provided with first and second intake ports (20A, 20B), first and second exhaust ports (22A, 22B), first and second fuel injection valves (24A, 24B), and an SCV (36). In the intake stroke, while the first intake port (20A) is blocked with the SCV (36), the second intake port (20B) allows air to flow into the cylinder and the first fuel injection valve (24A) injects fuel into the intake port (20A). Since this allows the injected fuel not to be significantly affected by the air flow in the first intake port (20A), the injected fuel can be fed into the cylinder while maintaining a natural spray shape. It is thus possible to prevent variations in combustion between cycles which would otherwise result from disturbance of the spray shape.
