To provide a technique capable of appropriately performing a PM regenerating process in a particulate filter regenerating system of an internal combustion engine that reduces an opening of an exhaust throttle valve during the PM regenerating process.
The particulate filter regenerating system of the internal combustion engine performs the PM regenerating process of the particulate filter in a condition where the opening of the exhaust throttle valve is narrowed more than that before performing the PM regenerating process. If an actual pressure inside the filter is different from a target value, a parameter used for determining an end timing of the PM regenerating process (oxidized PM amount per unit time ΔΣPM) is corrected based on the pressure inside the filter so that a performance time of the PM regenerating process can be extended or shortened. According to the invention, even if the pressure inside the filter is different from the target value, PM caught by the particulate filter is fully oxidized and removed.
