Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine capable of effectively mixing oxygen into fuel spray even if the interior of a combustion chamber is in low oxygen concentration atmosphere and thereby reducing the emission of black smoke and HC, even with a relatively simple and low-cost configuration.SOLUTION: The present invention concerns an internal combustion engine 100 including a combustion chamber 150 surrounded by a top surface of a piston 120, a lower surface of a cylinder head 110, and an inner wall of a cylinder liner 140, comprises: a fuel injection nozzle 161 facing a generally center of the combustion chamber 150 from the lower surface of the cylinder head 110 and injecting fuel; and a communication section 200 that includes an outer peripheral opening portion 201 opening to an outer periphery of the combustion chamber 150, a central opening portion 202 opening to the fuel injection nozzle 161, and a passage 203 provided in the cylinder head 110 and communicating the outer peripheral opening portion 201 with the central opening portion 202.
