To provide an ion generator with excessive power consumption restrained by measuring a velocity of wind flowing outside the ion generator and varying a wind amount according to the wind velocity.
In an ion generator 1, an ion generation device 8 is provided in a wind path 7 comprising a suction port 3 for sucking air in a room, a fan 5 rotated by a fan motor 4 for circulating the air in the room, and an emission port 6 for emitting the air, so as to emit ions in the air. Furthermore, a control part 24 for controlling an output of the fan motor 4 and on/off of the ion generation device 8, and a display/operation part 9 for informing a user of the operation and turning on/off a power source of the ion generator 1 are provided in the ion generator 1. Furthermore, a wind velocity detection sensor 10 for measuring an external wind velocity is provided at a place not influenced by the wind generated from the ion generator 1, so as to calculate a number of revolution and vary the output of the fan motor 4 according to the number of revolution.
