To provide a letterpress making method dispensing with an exclusive paste-in calibrator and skillful technique.
A perforated sheet 2 having a large number of three-dimensionally communicating holes is cut out into an external form that can include a plate image to be formed, and the cut-out perforated sheet is stuck to the surface of a sheet body 3 corresponding to a position where the plate image is to be formed, to form a plate material 1 for a letterpress. A TPH (thermal printhead) 4 is driven while conveying the plate material 1 for the letterpress held between the TPH 4 and a platen roller 5. The portions, heated by the TPH, of the perforated sheet 2 are formed into recesses to form a print image based on recesses and projections. When printing, the made plate material 1 for the letterpress is wound around the outer peripheral surface of a printing drum, and ink is applied to the projections of the image. The projections are brought into contact with paper supplied while being rotated, thus transferring the ink.
