PURPOSE: To enable obtaining a high definition screen with no cross talk even in high resolution display by applying driving voltage on the assumption that a limited current value is provided during a selecting period, in a matrix driving.
CONSTITUTION: A large transient current is made to flow by switching a selecting period (tu) depending on characteristics of actual liquid crystal display devices, and voltage V0-V5 applied to liquid crystal elements is varied. Then, by applying driving voltage on the assumption that a limited current value is provided during a selecting period, an assumed effective voltage is applied to liquid crystal elements, and a driving waveform in which applied voltage to liquid crystal elements is zero is obtained at the time of switching of the selecting period. That is, the just same waveform as an assumed triangular wave can be applied to liquid crystal elements by controlling power supply voltage on the assumption that it is raised with some inclination. Therefore, there is no difference between a region of assumed voltage and a region of actual voltage, and cross talk does not occur.
