Abstract:

To provide a transflective liquid crystal display device in which the connection between a reflection display electrode and a routed electrode extending from the reflection display electrode are stabilized and alignment characteristics are stabilized.

The transflective liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal layer 16 interposed between the one substrate 12, having a projecting and recessing layer 19 with a projection and recession shaped surface, the reflection display electrode 20 consisting of a metal reflection layer 18 and a transparent electrode 8 and an alignment layer 9 thereon, and the other substrate having at least a transparent display electrode 5 and an alignment layer 6 wherein the reflection display electrode 20 and the transparent display electrode 5 mutually intersect, includes a backlight 15 on the outside of the one substrate 12 and has the routed electrode 23 formed from an edge part of the reflection display electrode 20. In addition, with respect to the projecting and recessing layer 19, the average difference in projection and recession level on the surface is set to be 0.02-0.5 μm, and the average thickness is set to be 1.0 μm or less.
