Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide the liquid crystal element which can make display of a good contrast with a large screen with substantially no hysteresis and the display device constituted by using this element.
CONSTITUTION: This liquid crystal element is constituted by putting a display layer 103 consisting of a mixture composed of a specific incompatible high- polymer material 104and a low-molecular liquid crystal compd. 105 between substrates 101 and 101' having electrodes 102, 102' and has ≤25dyn/cm surface energy of the high-polymer material 104 in contact with the low-molecular liquid crystal compd. 105. This display device is constituted by using this liquid crystal element. The high-polymer material 104 in the display layer 103 forms a continuous matrix and the low-molecular liquid crystal compd. 105 dispersed in an island or tubular form.
