Abstract:
PURPOSE: In a magnetic disc unit with an off-track measuring feature by which the off-track amount inherent in a data head to be corrected when positioning the head is measured during the operation of the unit, to achieve efficient con trol of the offtrack measuring process performed during the operation of the unit.
CONSTITUTION: Provided in a higher-order magnetic disc control unit 12 is an off-track measuring control means 52, which instructs a lower-order magnetic disc unit 10 on the measuring process of an off-track amount according to the time schedule stored in a time table 54. The off-track measuring means 52 provided in the lower-order magnetic disc unit 10, upon receipt of the measuring instructions from the offtrack measuring control means, measures and stores the offtrack amount of each data disc 18 with respect to the reference position of a servo disc 14 in a correction table 86.
