To obtain a magnetic disk having high reliability which has little cohesion with a head even after a CSS operation and hardly causes head crush by forming a base lubricant layer having uniform film thickness as the base for an island-like lubricant.
The surface of an aluminum substrate subjected to nickel- phosphorus plating is ground to obtain specified surface roughness. After the substrate is cleaned, a Cr base layer, a Co alloy magnetic film and a carbon protective film are successively formed in a continuous sputtering device. After sputtering, a lubricant is applied by using a coating machine. To obtain an enough effect, the base lubricant is applied to 8, and preferably ≥15. Then a lubricant soln. of an extremely low concn. is applied by spraying from an enough distance. The lubricant sprayed deposits in a particle state on the disk surface.
