Title:
MAGNETIC FIELD-LIGHT CONVERTER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5897669
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic field-light converter which detects only the Faraday effect having no temp. dependency by negating optical rotatory power and the temp. change thereof by making use of the fact that the optical rotatory power is made zero when the same moves back and forth in a crystal and that the Faraday effect is doubled.

CONSTITUTION: Reflection layers 14 by multilayered dielectric films are formed on an optically polished crystal plate 13 of Bi12SiO20 or Bi12GeO20 having 3mm thickness, and transparent electrodes 15 of In2O3 or In2O3-SnO2 are stuck thereon by an RF sputtering method. After LED light is conducted through an optical fiber 16 into this element, the light is made into parallel luminous flux by a rod lens 17. The light polarized linearly from said luminous fluxes with a polarizing prism 18 is moved back and forth seven times and is then passed through an analyzer prism 19 assuming 45° angle to the polarizing prism and is conducted to a photodetector with a rod lens 17 and an optical fiber 16. When this element A is compared with an element B which is not applied with the transparent electrodes, the degrees of modulation of electric current and light output are linear in the element A. According to this element A, the magnetic field- light converter which is entirely unaffected by external electric fields and has excellent temp. characteristics is obtained.
