PURPOSE: To improve the durability and wear resistance of a magnetic recording medium over a wide temp. range by incorporating a specific org. compd. into a magnetic layer which is formed essentially of magnetic powder and binder on a nonmagnetic base.

CONSTITUTION: The org. compd. expressed by NH2-Q-R (where Q denotes a residual org. group of 4W12C; R denotes ≥1 kinds of the groups selected from -SO3M, -OM, -COOM, -CN, and the group expressed by the formula, M denotes hydrogen or metal element) is incorporated into the magnetic layer of the magnetic recording medium provided with the magnetic layer essentially consisting of the magnetic powder and the binder on the nonmagnetic base. The content of the org. compd. in the magnetic layer is adequately 0.05W5.0pts.wt. per 100pts. wt. magnetic powder in the magnetic layer. The binder may be the single binder essentially consisting of a polyurethane resin or a mixture composed of ≥2 kinds of the resins.
