PURPOSE: To compensate the attenuation at high band by audible sense and to avoid increase in noise, by changing the amount of high band compensation of the peaking circuit in accordance with the input signal level.

CONSTITUTION: The reproducing signal from the magnetic reproducing head fed to the terminal 1 is amplified at the amplification circuit 2 and inputted to the peaking circuit. In this case, the resonant frequency of the circuit 4 is taken, for example, as 10kHz to obtain the frequency characteristics to compensate the lowering in the output level at high band of the circuit 2. The output of the circuit 4 is fed to the diode 9 constituting the capacitor 12 and the signal level detection circuit via the waiting level detection circuit network 7 and the amplifier 8 for operation sensitivity set. Further, the back up time determined with the resistor 11 and the capacitor 12 and the recovery time determined with the resistors 10, 11,13 and 14 and the capacitor 12 are set so that the change in the noise can not be minded. Further, in this case, the resistance value between the circuit 4 and ground is changed with the impedance value of the transistor 15 and the amount of high band compensation of the circuit 4 is changed.
