To improve high brightness and a brightness life with the filling density of a phosphor increased, also with a metal back layer smoothly formed, by providing a phosphor screen wherein a metallized layer is formed, via an intermediate film by a lacquer film, on a phosphor layer manufactured by a printing method in a panel inner surface.
Phosphor paste, having a main body of a phosphor 3 and a binder 4, is applied on the platelike panel 2 of a cathode lay tube by a screen printing method, etc., to form a phosphor layer 5. Then for instance, a lacquer film 6, adopted as an intermediate film, is formed by a spraying method, and an aluminum film 7 is deposited, as a metallized layer, on the upper surface of the film 6. Resin, unsoluble in the solvent in the lacquer film, e.g. a cellulose derivative, is used as a binder, and acrylic lacquer is used as the lacquer film. An oxidizing agent of 0.1-3.0 wt.% is preverably added to the paste binder.
