Title:
MANUFACTURE OF HALF-SOLIDIFIED METAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH04124234
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To continuously manufacture half-solidified metal with an optimum solid phase rate by measuring the solid phase rate of half-solidified metal in the process of discharging by thermometry, regulating the opening degree of a nozzle at a discharge port in accordance with the solid phase rate and controlling its discharging velocity.

CONSTITUTION: Molten metal is poured into a cooling and stirring bath 2. In the stage of cooling and solidifying, it is stirred, is transformed into slurried half-solidified metal in a solid-liquid coexistent state and is discharged from the cooling and stirring bath 2. At this time, the temp. of the half-solidified metal in the process of discharging is measured by a thermocouple 8 for thermometry. By the above thermometry, the measurement of its solid phase rate is executed, and the regulation of the opening degree of the nozzle 4 at a discharge port is executed to control its discharging rate, by which the half- solidified metal is stably discharged. In this way, accidents to the half-solidified metal such as clogging in a device is prevented, and the stable operation can be executed.
