PURPOSE: To make a process simple and easy by forming a two-color striped filter in a single masking process through a prescribed method.

CONSTITUTION: A glass substrate 1 is coated with a resin high in heat resistance, such as polyester to form the first layer 12 to be dyed. Then, it is coated with a dyable material, such as gelatin, and exposed through a photomask to form a pattern of the layer 13 to be dyed. Only the layer 13 is dyed to the first color, e.g. blue, by immersing it in an aq. soln. of an acid dye or a reactive dye, and next, only the layer 12 is selectively dyed to the second color, e.g. red by heat transferring a dispersible dye to form a dyed region 14, and then, it is coated with a surface layer 5. Since only a single masking process is used, the process is simplified, and since the second dyed layer 14 can be formed on the flat layer 12 between the first dyed stripes 13, the process is made easy.
