PURPOSE: To obtain a high performance magnetic recording medium through neat coating by curving a coating path so that the center of the aperture at the end of coating path is located on the carrier supply side, while the end part is located on the carrier takeup side.
CONSTITUTION: A coating head 1 is provided with a magnetic paint supply path 2, an aperture 2a at the end part of the supply path 2 is curved and the curvature (length of curving area a/lateral width b) of the aperture 2a is set to 0.5 to 5% for example, to 1% (a=6mm, b=594mm). A path 3 for absorbing and injecting air is also provided at the position of the front stage where the coating is carried out in parallel to the supply path 2. When the absorbing operation is started by a pump (not illustrated) through the path 3, the carrier 4 provided against the coating head 1 is sucked to be in contact with the coating head 1. When pure air is injected through the path 3, the carrier 1 placed in contact with the coating head 1 is momentarily isolated from the head 1. In manufacturing of the recording medium, the magnetic paint is supplied and the carrier 1 is sucked by the head 1 without any wrinkle to realize neat coating of magnetic paint.
