To provide a method for producing a metal-ceramic composite material for casting, which can remarkably enhance the productivity and advantageously reduce impurities in the composite material.
This production method comprises the steps of: mixing a magnesium powder with a ceramic powder to form a uniform powder mixture; accommodating the mixture in an airtight container; removing a gas in the surrounding atmosphere from the container by sucking the gas and reducing the pressure; introducing nitrogen gas into the container to substitute the nitrogen gas for the atmospheric gas around the powder mixture; heating the powder mixture in the atmosphere of the substituted nitrogen gas; reacting magnesium with nitrogen to make a produced magnesium nitride deposit onto the surface of the ceramic powder; mixing the ceramic powder having the magnesium nitride deposited thereon with a molten metal of an aluminum alloy from which impurities have been previously removed; and uniformly mixing and stirring the mixed molten metal at a high temperature to form a uniform composite molten metal for casting.
