Title:
MASTER STATION APPARATUS IN OPTICAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3778183
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a master station apparatus in an optical communication system capable of properly setting the reception optical sensitivity of an APD for a period when the reception of an uplink optical signal from a slave station is predicted in the optical communication system wherein a master station and a plurality of slave stations are interconnected by optical fibers via optical branching apparatuses.
SOLUTION: The master station apparatus measures the reception strength of an uplink optical signal from each of the slave stations by each slave station in advance and stores the reception strength to a reception strength storage section 14 on the precondition that the reception strength of the uplink optical signal from each slave station received at the master station in the PON system is temporally unchanged by each slave station. An optimum bias decision section 15 sets a bias voltage of the APD in response to the reception strength of the uplink optical signal from a particular slave station stored in the reception strength storage section 14 at a point of time just before receiving the uplink optical signal from the particular slave station. Since the master station can set the bias voltage of the APD without a time delay in this way, the master station apparatus can sufficiently follow it even when the optical reception strength from each slave station is rapidly changed and has a large difference.
