PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a separation length to be automatically measured by providing rail sensors for detecting an abrasion length of a rail by measuring a dimension to the set reference position of the rail, and slab sensors for measuring a dimension to the slab upper surface, and calculating the separation dimension between the slab and the rail from both sensor outputs.
SOLUTION: A sensor box for measuring the right side and the left side, a battery for power source, and a calculating part including a computer base plate are loaded on a truck in which front, rear, right and left wheels 8 are attached to a chassis 5 at four parts. A power source switch of a control board attached to a traveling handle is turned on, and the separation dimension H is found by the formula of H=(H1+H2)/2 while pushing the truck. The characters H1, H2 are the inner and outer separating dimensions of a rail 50, they can be found by subtracting the dimensions Z2, Z2 between the slab sensors 11, 13 and the rail bottom side 55 from the dimensions X1, X2 between the slab sensors 11, 13 and the slab upper surface 75, and the dimensions Z1, Z2 are found by subtracting the constant from the measured dimensions Y1, Y2 of the outer rail sensors 12, 14.
