PURPOSE: To prevent or relieve the nausea, etc., accompanying analgesic administration by administrating the quaternary deriv. of specific noroxymorphone in the amt. effective for relieving nausea and emesis prior to the administration of a narcotic analgesic to warm-blooded animals.

CONSTITUTION: The nausea and emesis are prevented or relieved by administrating at least one kind of the quaternary deriv. of the noroxymorphone of formula (R is ally, such as ally and chloroallyl, cyclopropylmethyl, propagyl; X is the anion of an acid, more particularly Cl anion, Br anion, I anion or methyl sulfate anion), such as methylnaltrexone, to the inside of the intestines or the outside of the intestinal tracts of the warm-blooded animals at a ratio of 0.05 to 1.0 mg/Kg of the compd. of the formula at every 1 mg/Kg of the analgesic prior to 2 hours or simultaneously with the administration of the narcotic analgesic, such as morphine and related opium or mevalidine.
