PURPOSE: To obtain the subject molding material significantly improved in impact resistance, suitable for electrical appliances, domestic articles, etc., by incorporating a specific modified melamine resin with at least a fibrous filler.

CONSTITUTION: A reaction is made between (A) melamine and (B) a glycidyl compound (e.g., ethylene glycol glycidyl ether) in a molar ratio B/A=0.01-5.8, and the resulting reaction product is allowed to react with (C) formaldehyde in such a molar ratio C/(A-B)=0.5-4 to produce a modified melamine resin. Then, this resin is impregnated into a fibrous filler, thus obtaining the objective molding material.
