To obtain a melanin formation inhibitor that contains a specific glycoside, and is useful for cosmetics, quasimedicines and pharmaceuticals.
This melanin formation inhibitor, which provides beautifying cosmetic capable of inhibiting pigment deposition and can be compounded with both external use and oral compositions, contains 0.05-10.0wt.% of a glycoside of the formula (R is a moiety of a monosaccharide or oligosaccharide, for example, a monosaccharide such as glucose, galactose, xylose, mannose or N-acetylglucosamine, or a disaccharide such as maltose, cellobiose or gentiobiose, etc.), which has a strong melanin formation inhibitory effect.
