PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To instantaneously decide whether or not a memory device has a new function such as a security function.
SOLUTION: When the power source of equipment is turned on, whether or not a memory card is inserted is decided, and a book block in the memory card is read (a step S202). Whether or not the inserted memory card is corresponding to security is decided by referring to identification information in the boot block (a step S203). When the memory card is corresponding to security (a step S203), a certifying operation is executed (a step S204), and the recording/ reproduction of contents data is executed after the establishment of certification (a step S205). When the memory card is not corresponding to security, the invalidity of the memory card is announced (a step S206). When the equipment is not corresponding to security, a normal operation is executed to the memory card even when the decided result of a step S207 is positive or negative (steps S208 and S209).
