Title:
METHOD FOR ATTACHING STEEL COUNTERWEIGHT TO ALUMINUM DRIVE SHAFT, DRIVE SHAFT, AND METALLIC COMPOSITE FOR ATTACHMENT THEREOF
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH07151188
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce the amount of heat introduced into aluminum while attaching steel to the aluminum and thus to reduce the thermal expansion and deformation of the aluminum.

CONSTITUTION: A transition material 10 is disposed between the outer surface of an aluminum drive shaft and the inner surface of steel counterweights. A resistance welding process is then applied to the aluminum drive shaft, the steel counterweights, and the transition material to resistance weld the inner surface of the steel counterweights to the outer surface of the drive shaft. The transition material has a first surface 12 adjacent to the drive shaft and a second surface 14 adjacent to the counterweights. The first surface is made of aluminum and the second surface 14 is made of steel.
