Abstract:
To provide a method for cleaving an alkyl tert-alkyl ether in high conversion ratio while suppressing the formation of by-product.
An alkyl tert-alkyl ether is cleaved by reactive distillation in the presence of an acidic catalyst by supplying the alkyl tert-alkyl ether to a reaction zone of a reactive distillation apparatus having a bottom zone, at least one distillation zone and a reaction zone arranged from the bottom upward. The supply of the ether to the reaction zone is carried out in the form of an azeotropic mixture of the alkyl tert-alkyl ether and the corresponding alkanol.
