To provide a method for efficiently producing solanesol by removing a free fatty acid in a contaminant composed of the free fatty acid and a phospholipid as an ester substance and removing the phospholipid as a micelle substance when extracting solanesol from leaf tobacco.
A lower alcohol having ≤100°C boiling point is used as an extraction solvent for leaf tobacco and the leaf tobacco is heated to a temperature not lower than the melting point of solanesol in an extracted solution composition and extraction is carried out under acidic conditions. Thereby, contamination by the free fatty acid and the phospholipid which have not been avoided by conventional techniques is solved by removing the free fatty acid as the ester substance and removing the phospholipid as the micelle substance and solanesol can efficiently be produced.
