Abstract:
To improve the purity of hydrogen in an electrochemical device by improving the gas barrier property of an electrolyte membrane.SOLUTION: An electrochemical device 70 comprises an electrolyte membrane-electrode conjugate 73 comprising an electrolyte membrane 10 placed between an anode 71 and a cathode 72, and is constituted by placing the electrolyte membrane-electrode conjugate 73 between an anode-side separator 77 and a cathode side separator 78. The electrolyte membrane 10 is constituted of an alignment layer 10a present therein, and a non-alignment layer 10b surrounding the alignment layer 10a. The gas barrier property of the electrolyte membrane 10 is improved by the presence of the alignment layer 10a therein, and therefore the permeation amount via the electrolyte membrane 10 of gas other than hydrogen such as carbon dioxide contained in hydrogen-containing gas supplied to the anode 71 is reduced, so that the content of impurities contained in hydrogen generated on the cathode 72 of the electrochemical device 70 is reduced, and the purity of hydrogen generated on the cathode 72 of the electrochemical device 70 becomes higher.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
