Abstract:
To form glass substrates for magnetic disks to the shape having high accuracy by using a glass material.
The method for manufacturing the glass substrates for disks to obtain the glass substrates for disks of a required shape by press forming the glass material by using dies includes a first process step of applying a die lubricant at a film thickness of 0.01 to 0.1 μm onto the press forming surface of the die, a second process step of placing the glass material on the press forming surface of the die and heating the die near to the softening point of the glass material, then press forming the glass material and a third process step of cooling the die down near to the glass transition temperature of the glass material.
