To provide a method of manufacturing a glass substrate for a magnetic disk suppressing the occurrence of flaws on the glass substrate and improving the roundness of an outer periphery of the glass substrate, the glass substrate for the magnetic disk, and a method of manufacturing the magnetic disk.

The method of manufacturing the glass substrate for the magnetic disk comprises a substrate preparing step preparing a disc-shaped glass substrate 10 having a circular hole 12 at a center portion thereof, an inner peripheral end surface smoothing step smoothing an inner peripheral end surface 14 of the glass substrate 10 to be not more than 0.04 μm in arithmetical mean surface roughness Ra, and an outer peripheral end surface polishing step polishing an outer peripheral end surface 16 of the glass substrate 10 whose inner peripheral end surface 14 is smoothed in the inner peripheral end surface smoothing step. In the outer peripheral end surface polishing step, an inner diameter supporting rod for polishing an outer peripheral end surface for supporting the inner peripheral end surface 14 of the glass substrate 10 is inserted to fix the glass substrate 10 to thereby polish the outer peripheral end surface 16.
