To provide a practical and very beneficial hydrogen absorbing alloy powder for an alkali secondary cell negative electrode, which has better initial characteristics and high efficiency property than those of a hydrogen absorbing alloy power used a negative electrode of prior art alkali secondary cell and furthermore satisfies service life characteristic.
A hydrogen absorbing alloy powder for an alkali secondary cell negative electrode is obtained by milling a hydrogen absorbing alloy mass and a thin band manufactured using prior art method to particles, having an average particle diameter of 15 μm or smaller by a impact pin milling machine, mixing an alloy before, during or after milling with a rate earth oxide and/or a rate earth hydroxide and dry surface-treatment of the obtained alloy powder.
