Title:
METHOD FOR PRODUCING ALCOHOL FROM POLYESTER RESIN
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2004300130
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
To provide a method for producing alcohols from polyester resin, e.g., polyethylene terephthalate through shortened steps efficiently under relatively mild conditions.
This invention is a method for producing alcohol from polyester resin by hydrogenating the polyester in the presence of a solvent, hydrogen, a ruthenium complex catalyst in one step. According to this invention, depolymerization and hydrogenation reduction are carried out with one-step operation to produce benzenedimethanol, namely a reduction product of alkylene glycol and terephthalic acid units, in high yield through shortened steps.
