Abstract:
To provide a simple method for producing a benzyl alcohol derivative at a low production cost.
The method for producing the α,α-dialkyl-3,5-dichlorobenzyl alcohol which is the benzyl alcohol derivative represented by general formula I (wherein, R1 and R2 are each a 1-3C alkyl group of the same or a different kind) comprises reacting a compound represented by general formula II with magnesium and then reacting the resultant compound with a compound represented by general formula III.
