Abstract:

To provide a method for easily producing a halogenated benzyl alcohol in a high yield.

This method for producing a compound of formula (I) (R1 is C1 or F; and R2, R3 and R4 are each independently H, F, Cl, CF3, OCF3, a 1 to 4C alkyl or a 1 to 4C alkoxy), is characterized by reacting a compound of formula (II) with hydrogen in the presence of palladium or platinum catalyst at 0 to 120°C in the presence or absence of a solvent.
