Abstract:

To provide a method for efficiently producing a linear compound by the dimerization reaction of a terminal olefin.

This method for efficiently producing the linear compound represented by the general formula: R4CH2CH=CHCH2CH2CH2R4 (R4 is a hydrocarbon group having two or more carbon atoms) comprises dimerizing a terminal olefin represented by the general formula: CH2=CHCH2R4 in the presence of a complex represented by general formula 1 (R1 to R3 are each identically or differently a hydrocarbon group, a halogen atom or the like; X is a halogen atom or the like) as a catalyst. Exaltone and muscone can efficiently be synthesized from the produced dimer.
