To provide an excellent method for safely and efficiently synthesizing a lithium alkoxide by adding a mixture of a carbonyl compound with a halogenated hydrocarbon to a metal lithium in a solvent having a low flash point and carrying out reaction of an alkyllithium with the carbonyl compound while generating the alkyllithium.
This method for producing a lithium alkoxide represented by the formula (3) [wherein R1 and R2 are each hydrogen, an alkyl group or an aryl group and R1 and R2 may form an alicyclic hydrocarbon together with carbon atom; R3 is an alkyl group, an alkenyl group, an aryl group or a cycloalkyl group] comprises adding a carbonyl compound represented by the formula (1): R1R2C=O [wherein R1 and R2 are each the same as described above] and a metal lithium to a solvent, adding a halogenated hydrocarbon represented by formula (2): R3-X [wherein; R3 is the same as described above; X is a halogen atom] thereto and reacting the resultant alkyllithium with the carbonyl compound to obtain the lithium alkoxide.
